How to use

Hello😊
I'm Yelim, a Korean language tutor on Preply.

This grammar textbook is based on my lesson data with various students and follows the teaching guidelines of the National Institute of the Korean Language. I designed it to be as simple and intuitive as possible.
Traditional textbooks often present grammar in a linear way through print or PDFs, which can be difficult for beginners to grasp. To address this, I created this resource using Notion—allowing learners to see both the big picture and the details of Korean grammar at once.
While it doesn't cover every single grammar point in extreme detail, it includes nearly all essential grammar up to the intermediate level, making it fully suitable for conversational use.

Thank you.

Structure

This textbook is primarily designed for students who can already read and write Hangul.

Korean is a language that builds meaning by adding necessary elements to verbs. For example, if we try to say "wanted to study" in Korean, it’s…
“ 공부하고 싶었습니다 ”
When we break this down, the verb is structured in the specific order shown below;
공부하 고 싶 습니다
main helping pre-ending ending

⚠️ Note: "Helping verb" isn't a standard concept in Korean grammar—it's typically explained as part of ‘expressions’ in other textbooks. I created this concept for clearer and more intuitive understanding.
Some grammar points that are technically expressions have been placed under endings or markers based on their function rather than traditional classification.

Studying Order

Since this textbook is designed to be used like a dictionary, the order of study isn't particularly important. However, if you're a student exploring Korean for the first time with this resource, I recommend following this sequence:

Starter 0️⃣,1️⃣

0️⃣ word→ marker→ main → closing →
1️⃣ word → marker→ pre-ending → closing → helping → connective

Novice 2️⃣

marker → transformative → helping → connective → expression → closing

Pre-Intermediate 3️⃣

words→ transformative → marker → pre-ening → main → helping → connective → closing → expression

Intermediate 4️⃣

marker → closing → helping → connective → transformative → expression
