Person Noun + 한테, 에게, 께
It means either 'to (person)' or 'from (person)', depending on the verb's meaning.에게 is the same word but a bit more book(written) style. -께 is an honorific.
친구한테 책을 줬어요.
I gave a book to my friend.
친구한테 책을 받았어요.
I received a book from my friend.
언니에게 목걸이를 선물했어요.
I gave a necklace as a gift to my older sister.
아버지께 책을 드렸어요.
I gave a book to father (honorific).
- If you want to emphasize the meaning “from”, you can use ‘한테서’, ‘에게서’. We don’t use -께서 that much for honorific.
친구한테서 책을 받았어요
언니에게서 목걸이를 받았어요.
